Darning set

The darning set (6.3 x 9.5 x 2.1 cm) consists of a cardboard box containing twelve small rolls of yarn and a sewing needle. The rolls of yarn comprise a total of 8 metres of fine darning thread in various colours. The set’s small size makes it suitable for travel purposes to darn holes or sew on buttons. The flip-open box has a yellow lid on which a blue roll of yarn is depicted, its yarn unravelling and creating the logo of the GDR travel agency, before going on to form an arrow with the lettering “Mein Reisebegleiter” (“My travel companion”). The box, which was produced by VEB alwo Altenburger Wollspinnerei, was handed out to customers as advertising for the GDR travel agency.
