“Fritz Heckert” cruise brochure

A brochure on the FDGB holiday ship “Fritz Heckert”

The brochure on the FDGB holiday ship “Fritz Heckert” informs passengers on the ship’s history, technical data, service on offer, leisure activities and behaviour rules. The ship was equipped with luxury cabins, as well as salons, swimming pools, a cinema, a library, a hairdresser’s studio and self-service ironing stations. The prized tickets were awarded to worthy workers and party veterans, firstly to fulfil the growing demand for opportunities to travel and secondly to motivate state employees to achieve more. Named after the German politician, Communist and trade unionist Fritz Heckert, the gas-turbine ship was built by the shipping yard VEB Mathias-Thesen-Werft in Wismar and departed on its maiden voyage on May 1, 1961.
