Stern radio 111
Battery-operated portable radio
The battery-operated travel radio “111” (27.0 x 7.5 x 16.3 cm) consists of a light blue plastic shell and a white front cover. The narrow, rectangular format and the moveable metal handle make the radio easy to transport. Five buttons on the top, and two dials and another button on the front are used to operate the radio. The white front side is structured by vertical bars and double-rowed slits over the loudspeaker. An additional loudspeaker or a tape recorder can be connected to the rear side. The Stern Radio 111 was produced in 1964 by VEB Stern-Radio Berlin, the only GDR manufacturer to produce portable radios (from 1962 onwards). The logo “RFT” shown on the rear of the radio stood for “Radio und Fernmelde-Technik”, referring to the industrial sector of information technology and measuring systems.
